Hotel Room at $3000 per Night!

Have you ever been to a hotel room that cost $3000 per night?!?

marina-bay-sands

Yes…One of our friends invited us to her Hotel Room in the Marina Bay Sands Resort on the 54th floor…and we were treated to an opulent experience in this World Class Hotel.

At $3000 per night, this was definitely not going to be ordinary hotel room.

In fact, I thought that it was just like any other wedding suite found in a 5 Star hotel, but I was shocked at the size of the room.

This is the hallway from the door:

DSC_0380

Entering the first doorway on the right, I found that there was a gym in the hotel room….Yes…Not downstairs…but IN THE ROOM!

DSC_0376

The main room is equipped with its very own study or conference area:

DSC_0395

This is its own Dining area adjacent to the suite. (Btw, the bar fridge found in the hotel room has little bottles of champagne, and premium grade tea/coffee found in the pantry. Don’t expect to find Lipton Tea or Ice Mountain Mineral Water here)

This is an overview shot of the whole Sitting Room Area:

DSC_0398

This area was already approximately the size of a HDB 5 room flat. However, at this moment of time, I had not even ventured into the Master Bed Room area yet.

Check out the huge bed in this bedroom:

The room comes equipped with its own walk-in wardrobe…

Coupled with a huge toilet complete with vanity top and bath-tub

and with ample shower room space…

DSC_0384

I was totally blown over by the size of the room and if you are wondering who can afford to stay in a room such as this…

Well, this is the my friend’s bill…just for having drinks at the Marina Bay Sands.

marina sands receipt

They paid $45, 515. 17. (Yes..the commas and the full stops are in the right place. And this is just for drinks!)

That is someone’s University School Fees spent in 1 night!!!

If you can pay for those drinks without batting an eyelid…I am sure that you can afford staying in this hotel room! :)

And, you can also go to the Marina Sky Park for FREE, if you stay in this room!

Youth Olympic Games – A Girl’s Hope

Oh Wow…this Video is so touching…

rtcompass

After all the Big protests about JJ lin’s Cheer, MCYS seems to have an answer in a more “human” ad, and it seems to be able to touch our hearts.

Watch it first before you read the post:

I thought it was very ordinary at first, and as the Mum answered questions about the clouds…A bit of deja-vu came over me…

I think Nicole has asked me about the sky and the clouds before…and I thought that her answer was quite revelational.

I think Blue speaks to me – as the favourite colour of many guys and not of hope (oh my…I might be a him-bo).

But I think it is a good association and I might keep that textbook answer, the next time Nathan asks me about the sky.

The most touching part was definitely when she looked up and I realized that the little girl was blind.

I think it kind of reminds us – that we should not give up dreaming and hoping, as this is the kind of stuff that faith is made of.

And last night, as I was watching the news…I saw the little girl’s interview with MediaCorp.

When asked how she felt about the Youth Olympic Games….She said that she was excited about it and that she…

“Cant wait to see the fireworks!”

Innocence can’t be bought – and that’s why the ad is so convincing!

Going to the National Day Parade

Last Saturday, with some help from 24seven and Clarence, the family managed to get tickets to the Last Combine Rehearsal of the National Day Parade 2010.

DSC_0417

I have been to some of the Media Events regarding this year’s NDP, and I kind of knew what to expect. I have already got hold of my favourite NDP Tote Bag earlier, and now I was just looking to collect the other designs. Little did I know – that the best was yet to come!

DSC_0537

In retrospect, the most eventful part of the parade was not the traditional Parade per se. With hundreds of people marching in, standing in the middle of the padang…and just standing there…This inaction is a non-event that had the kids sucking on the packet drinks found in their NDP Tote bags.

ndp boring collage

Previously, they scrapped the March Past by every contingent some time ago…but looks like they brought it back this year!

From the Commandos to the PUB staff marching past the President…this event was very time-consuming and very Zzzz…

Look at Nathan’s BIG EYES…He was BORED!

However, the other parts of the parade were totally different!

The kids were excited when:

1. The Parachutes came flying down from the sky. Watching the airborne rangers in action, was a 1st for all the kids and they thoroughly enjoyed it.

DSC_0490

2. Nathan loved the Ariel display, which had the F-15s and F-16s flying by.

flypast

Nadine was covering her ears, but the good thing was that she did not cry. Nicole was also unusually quiet, as she found the jet engines really LOUD!

On the other hand, Nathan loved the jet planes! I think it is a “boy thing”, as he loved the fire engines, tanks and police cars as well!

3. And everyone loved the performances!

As the sun began to set, we were introduced to the musical genius of Dick Lee.

DSC_0647

To tell you the truth, I was already impressed with the new renditions of the ageless National Songs at the Media Launch…but together with the floats and the live performances….the parade was brought up to another level! :)

DSC_0644

ndp performance

DSC_0709

Even though this was just a rehearsal…the catchy music and beats really got us going…It got all of us standing up and swaying to the songs! We were definitely Standing up for Singapore! :)

DSC_0753

If you are someone who is really into fireworks…there are also tons of fireworks going on throughout the performance.

Many of the items had their acts coordinated with the fireworks, and this made me a very trigger happy camera man. I was spinning around like a mad man, trying to get the best shot! :)

DSC_0795

If you have got tickets to the actual event…Don’t give them up!

The NDP parade is definitely an experience!

This is a parade, that will be enjoyed by the young and by the adults as well! I may not have been to a parade for a long time…but this is one that I definitely enjoyed! :)

ndp 2010

If you are going down to the Parade on the 9th of August, here are some helpful tips for you:

Tips for Parents:

DSC_0115

1. No need to bring additional Drinks

The Tote Bag given by the organizers contains 4 bottles of fluids. There is one mineral water, one newater, one H-two-O isotonic drink and one ‘Yeos’ packet drink. This makes every TOTE bag very heavy, and my veins were ‘popping out’ when I had to carry 5 bags by myself.

DSC_0129

2. The TOTE Bag weighs a TON

If you are just carrying 1 bag, that is ok! But if you have a grandma or young children with you – expect your knight in shinning armour to be weighed down by the bags.  I threw away the non-essential items like the game box when I had time to settle down in my seat. It was too heavy for Daddy to carry everything home all by himself.

3. Park near an MRT Station

I parked near the Circle line, as I find these stations nearest to the Padang, and the City Hall station seems to be a “magnet” for crowds. Stations like “Promenade” seem to be under-utilized, and they make great escape routes, when the Parade ends.

4. Wait till the crowd clears…

If you have young kids under 4 years old, don’t head for the exit immediately after the parade. The stairs are a ‘killer’ for the children, and they will be in danger of trampled upon after the parade. So, wait till the crowd clears, when the Parade ends! This is not a day for you to be Kiasu! :)

Feel free to drop any tips and comments before you go! :)

Night Festival at the National Museum

Last Saturday night, as we were driving home, we stumbled onto a bustling Bras Basah area, which was in the midst of the Night Festival.

nightfestival

Usually, this area of the City is a rather quiet stretch in the middle of the night…But at 10pm of that Saturday – It was a Totally Different City.

Conceived, curated by Ong Keng Sen and produced by TheatreWorks, the City was transformed to a walk down Memory Lane.

The festival stretched from the Singapore Management Uni, Singapore Art Museum, Peranakan Museum and the Substation. Through the festivities, along the whole stretch, one was brought to a world of Amusement Parks.

Naturally with an artistic outlook to the festival, you were not going to find Amusement Park rides or games, but instead we got amusement from a different perspective.

Check it out:

World’s Slowest SMS Billboard

In front of the Singapore Art Museum, this is a tongue-in-cheek interactive artwork where messages sent were displayed by a team of humans with giant billboards. From advertisements about One’s facebook account, we were asked to smile at our neighbours or Do the chicken dance. Quite Amusing!

DSC_0121

The streets across the SAM to the National Museum were also lined with murals and graffiti art. Many people took the time to pause, and to cam-whore.

DSC_0189

DSC_0175

DSC_0174

Renowned Street artist Tyke Witness AWR and EL Mac were also there to paint live. It is interesting to see up close how Graffiti Art is conceived and done-up. They are definitely Artistic, as the Artwork was very intricately drawn.

I asked my wife whether One was a Swiss and the Other was a Brit! :)

Don’t worry…there were no MRT trains around.   DSC_0134

There were also these 6 gigantic Satellite dishes outside the National Museum. There were actually people dancing underneath, but it was a bit too crowded for me to get any closer.

DSC_0217

Abusment Park

We also managed to walk into the Singapore Art Museum courtyard which was transformed into a courtyard of torture.  The irony was that there were many stalls stationed around, but the amusement that they sold was torture. DSC_0242

DSC_0269

DSC_0261

night musuem collage

Armed with their own guillotine, they were ready to torture the sporting tourists who were willing to be the victims of the Courtyard.

We lined up to see the underground torture instruments but the queue took so long, that when we reached the door, it was already 2am.

I would say that the festival is really quite a success, as I saw adults and children walking around up to the wee hours of the morning. There were deep artistic connotations and parodies to the performances.

DSC_0220

I think most of us just enjoyed what’s going on and the vibrancy of the evening.

It was a pity that we did not find out about it earlier, as I understand that there were activities for children and other circus acts as well!

Well…maybe next year…
